Copeton Dam Fishing Report 5th August 2015
Water level is still rising slowly, with current reading at 19.3% with inflow of 235Ml

Well the full moon has been and gone for another month and as we move into the darker phases the Cod fishing should improve. The last week has still produced fish but not with the consistency of the previous few weeks. There has also been a couple of low pressure systems moving across the country as well, Cod defiantly bite better with a rising or high barometer.
The weekend forecast is for frosty starts followed by clear days, a high is moving across the country so it should be a great weekend to cast a line at Copeton Waters.
The cod captures over the last week have mainly come on hard bodied lures and spinnerbaits both cast & trolled. I don’t know what it is about the Mudeye Thingy but it has been the go to when the cod are not co-operating on the surface. This lure, commonly called “The Rat” is covered in fur and dives to about 15 feet. Steve Monkton was here through the week and he landed 3 fish over a metre plus 8 others, very happy fisherman.
There have been some reports of Yellowbelly this last week, and some big fish amongst them, the best I heard of was 63cm or about 6-7kg. It won’t be long now until the Yellas start to school, this is when you will need to have your eyes glued to the sounder as you cruise around the flats mainly in water between 20 & 40 feet deep looking for the fish arches. If you can find schooled fish then Jackals, Mazzy Vibes and Blades will be the go to lures. Fish these on the bottom with a lift and pause retrieve.
