Here is a pic of a nice lil bully i landed last weekend in the brisbane river. Will be giving it another go tomorrow to try and land some big bullies ;)

i have chased the sharks in the bremer and brisbane river since i was a kid, they are great sport on light spin out fits and every summer the numbers in the upper tidal sections of both systems increases dramatically . live herring, silver biddies, bonies, mullet and chunks of fresh water eel do the trick. 9/0 circle hook on 90lb nylon coated wire 50cm long swivel 60lb mono leader 60cm then mainline 20lb braid.

Do you use a float of any sort to keep it higher up in the water colums???

nah i never use a float, if i am in an area with little to no flow i use no sinker and let the live bait swim where ever, if there is flow i put a light ball sinker on the mainline and slowly lower the live bait out in the flow and get it down about half way. try and keep it off the bottom to help avoid eels, crabs and catties.
are you keen to get into a few?

Certainly am ;D I want to try something landbased instead of taking the yak out chasing bass (only productive way :P) while being close to ippy.

:youbeauty Wow thats awsome I have been trying to hook one of these for ages. is this near the junction? Also how do you and were do you get the live bait want to get one of these so bad. spent may hours in the tinnie with no luck

cheers, yeah fairly close to the junction, i use the cast net to get live bait from sandy banks with no trees. i am seeing pics of some good bully action down below the second weir at mt crosby at the moment, some other land based spots to try are johnsons rock, downstream colleges crossing, scout camp allawah , riverside old boat ramp, kookaburra park(when it opens finally),priors pocket lake (good low tide spot at entrance of lake on southern bank) , moggill ferry on the moggill side, Bremer river Keith street back of bundamba, cribb park , riverlink , woodend, brassall, shapcott park. these are a few good options all worth a go at the toothy critters :) some other options for bait are chunks of freshwater eel :thumbsup or bread under a float for mullet, live catfish or legal bream and bass :popcorn) ;D ;D

early morning or late arvo til evening is prime time, all though you can get them all day long some days :)

Good point, there is no use of cast nets in non tidal freshwater rivers, creeks, dams etc
In my list though i have not stated non tidal influenced sections of river, all the areas i have stated are tidal influenced spots which raise and lower and even change direction of flow which makes them tidal waters . ;)

I know you know Wes, but some don't. I've seen cast nets being used at Twin Bridges, Savages and Kholo. Just a reminder to people to check the regs.

Dont get me started on cast net laws, I was so pissed off when they brought in the their stupid change from allowed in tidal zones to not allowed in fresh. It was so simple for years, if the body of water went in and out with the tide, you could use your cast net. With the rule change to no in fresh, yes in salt, in 2011 I reckon you could have been fined for using a cast net anywhere in moreton bay there was that much fresh running down.
Now the rules even more ridiculous, with the "rules for tidal waters" stating you can use cast nets (no stipulation it must be salt), but the fresh water rules state cast nets cant be used in fresh water. So yes, those spots listed above, its probably illegal to use a cast net there if it has rained in the last week or so, if no rain, its probably legal. But as most fisho's dont carry a chemical kit to detect salt levels, who knows!

I'm keen to catch a bully for a feed.
I've mostly fished for them down at Wolfdene , saltwater side of Weir using live mullet, I'm in the process of buying another cast net. I managed to get my castnet hard stuck either on a big tree or concrete slab with rio. I tried to retrive it, bounce... bounce... bounce... rip ...rip ...rip... way too much damage, should have known better, I tied it up for later retrieval next day, someone else decided to help themselves....
Line I use is 100lb braid with 185 lb multistrand wire crimped onto a 7766D Mustad 6/0 hook. I caught two bullies over two days.
If you have a spare seat in about 2 to 3 weeks time, let me know, I'll chip in towards fuel.
