Title: Willy Wrong NPD
Post by: dinodadog on April 04, 2013, 07:19:45 AM
Had a look at willy weather yesterday early and weather didnt look that good out at NPD but was worse for the rest of the week, so decided to get a fish in or it would be sat before it was OK again. Willy wrong wrong wrong again, it was a beautiful day weather wise and fish wise. Nothing on lures trolling down and back up the dam but the good old shrimp came to the rescue once again. Some people frown on using shrimp but I enjoy fly, lure and bait fishing, well I enjoy catching fish full stop. Managed 38 bass, one yella, one tandan and 3 forkies what a fun day, all released.
By the way if they call a freshwater fisho that used bait and takes some of his fish home a meato or freezer filler, what do they call a saltwater fisher that takes part of his catch home.

Nothing wrong with taking your bag limit for a feed.  That's why the SIP Scheme exists.  If you get fish angling with shrimp, you should be able to pick them up with soft plastics or blades in the same place.  They may be too deep for your lures when you are trolling.
I don't see anything wrong with any legal methods of catching fish.  Some even go so far as to suggest certain nationalities should be all bundled together and kept off our dams.  There sure are some narrow sighted people around.  Fish how you like when you can, just obey the laws and respect the fish.  Lucky you got off before that storm hit, it was a cracka over the hill from NPD.

I used to take a couple of bass or yellas home for a feed but over the last few years I have just gone off them. Nicest bass I have tasted have been from Hinze dam years a go, someone told me its because there is no agriculture activities around the dam only forrests, dont know how true that is.

Was like a washing machine in the open areas on Hinze today.

Saw one naive looking young couple rigging their brand spanking new tandem kayak as we were leaving, warned them to keep in the boat ramp general area and not to go any further, they didn't even have life jackets.

Hoping I wont hear about them on the news tonight.

Fish out at NPD are not to interested in lures at the moment. Maybe as winter rolls on and they start to school we may have a better chance. Fish that we are getting on shrimp are not schooling, they are random fish moving about and along the dropoffs. A lotof the time they have got your shrimp before you see them on the sounder. Every now and again we have a day when they decide to hit some lures but very rare at the moment. I have trolled with 3 lures out at different depths and passed over fish that are not interested.

I don't know if this a wierd thing to say , but I have never eaten a freshwater fish. Not against anyone who does. But for some reason it has never even tempted me. I love catching and eating saltwater species , but the the old bass or yella just can't do it
