SE Qld Dam levels up & over....
« on: October 02, 2010, 12:42:42 AM »
Apparently Wivenhoe will hit the 100% mark over night. I'm not sure what the protocol is with releasing water the dam upgrade, but a bit of flow downstream will be good tomorrow while a few of us are doing a 12km section downstream.

They might just keep a bit extra to, but would be good to some flow downstream apart from the regular water supply releases.

Either way expect it on the 6 o'clock news!

Don't worry. There will be plenty of water comind downstream this summer. Everything is indicating a cracker of a year foe rainfall. In a few months everyone will be whinging about too much water instead of not enough ;D

Actually, this is the first time on 35 years that we've had BOTH a La Nina & its Indian Ocean counter part (can't remember its name) in Australia at the same time. Last time this rare occurance happened was 1974. Ask any one from Darwin about 1974 & you'll get one word, Tracey.

Watch out for a really wet summer.....

fitz..

If they release some water out of the Wivenhoe "grow out" pond , it should at least load the river up for some cracking fishing!!! The kill it and grill it crowd will then be out in force  :'(

On a positve note , would the recent good/sustained inflows coming down the upper Brisbane be of great timing for the yellowbelly breeding population? They should be having a field day in all that turbid water !!

Cheers,
Dave.

ask anyone in Brisbane at the start of 1974..Wanda. She was the cause for the building of Wivenhoe. For those that were not here, about 1/3 of Brisbane was inundated and about 15 people died. Not a good time.

Yeah I remember 74, watched the neighbours swimming pool blowing over their bag fence after it broke!

Large parts of Brissy under water.

When are they going to start releasing water from the Wivenhoe sea? The Brisbane River at Twin Bridges was only marginally higher this afternoon (Monday ). The picture below was taken at 5:30pm

Cheers,
Dave.

When are they going to start releasing water from the Wivenhoe sea?

I'm sure I heard on the news tonight that SEQ Water are going to wait until the dam is 101.5 percent or something like that...Only then will they open the gates.

Cheers

Dale,

That sort of rain was only on your side of the river. Over in the pocket , it just managed to wet the ground.

Also I forgot to mention someone dropped down the "bridge flooded" signs on both sides of twinnies. Sniffing around the SEQ water site , I found a bit of info saying that they are going to ramp up the releases through the hydro over the next 10 days. Can fish pass through the hydro intake?

Cheers,
Dave.

Yep the briefing we were given the other day with Red Cross, be prepared for a wet and wild summer, cyclone's the prediction is 5 to 7 with one maybe below the border of NSW/QLD.
