Better boat ramps for Victorian Sweetwater Anglers - Victoria Fisheries

Murray River Recreational fishers are set to benefit from upgrades to a number of boat ramps along the Murray River between Robinvale and Berribee.

Up to 10 boat ramps in urgent need of repair will be upgraded over the coming year as part of a multi-agency project which has already received widespread support from local anglers.

The ramps likely to receive the much needed upgrades are found at locations which are mostly along the Victorian side of the Murray River, such as Berribee, Lock Nine, Lake Culluleraine, Cowanna Bend, Kings Billabong, Danes Road, Hattah Kulkyne, Robinvale and Wemen.

The Victorian Government’s Recreational Fishing Initiative will fund the upgrades in conjunction with the Mallee Catchment Management Authority and Parks Victoria.

The Murray River in the Sunraysia region is very popular with Victorian fishers who enjoy catching Murray cod, golden perch and spiny freshwater crayfish. Many Victorian fishers and their families travel to the Murray River to camp and fish and the upgrades mean they will be able to launch and retrieve their boats with greater ease at these locations.

The initiative aims to improve angler access and facilities, stock more fish, install cleaning tables, deploy fishing reefs and strengthen compliance.

Fishing is a popular pastime for over 720,000 Victorians and supports regional businesses including hotels to bait and tackle stores.
