gold coast canal bullsharks
« on: August 22, 2014, 02:11:18 PM »
hey guys

I just recently moved to surfers paradise and live on the nerang river. I live about 100 meter down from where a uni student was recently bitten by a bullshark a few months ago so i know they are in there. I am planning on fishing for these guys over the next few weeks since the rain is here and stiring up the water.

was wondering what bait to use whether i should use whole mullet (dead or alive) , or dead or live bream which i heard works good aswell as eel.....for burley i was just planning on crushing up pillies and adding a bit of tuna oil for the oily smell.

also would the bullies be worried about the wire trace or should i nilon coat it? sorry for all the questions but ive caught so many fish off the back of my place trevally, bream, flathead, cod, jacks and even the occasional tailor but they were all caught on lures and sp so im not so great with what bait works for what aha

i just need as much info as possible cause it has been the biggest goal for me to catch one of these bastards and if you guys could help me out as much as possible it would honestly be greatly appreciated. cheers

Uni student fillets would probably be the go.  Just half a butt cheek would probably do it.

I use live bait for sharks. Mullet mainly but also catfish, legal sized bream and whiting. Anything of legal size you can use, sharks eat everything. Single strand wire trace down to a 4/0 to 6/0 circle hook. No flash rig needed.

Best of luck

Hey mate im from Western sydney and I get the bulls in fresh water I use 6-10 kg rods 30 lb braid 50 lb shock trace to nylon coated wire I dont use single strand as it kinks all the time  it depends on what size sharks your after I go for ones up to about 1.5 - 2m long I use a 50-60 cm length of wire 50-120 lbs use 200 if sharks are bigger than 2 m  I crimp a swivel to one side and then thick gauge hooks up to 9/0 on other side I like eel carp and mullet as bait for burley try mashing or blending carp into a hessian bag and dangle in the water for slow release run a small sinker on the mono to the wire just enough to hold the bottom and leave the reel in free spool unless you have a baitrunner my hooks are just mustad hoodlums live bait hooks in a 9/0  can use whole fish or steaks or fillets
