Copeton Waters Fishing Report 24th Aug. 2015

Water level steady at 19.3%
Good rain forecast for this week.

The last week or two has seen a continuation of the Cod surface bite but it has been a little harder. This has been due to a couple of things, firstly we have seen a constantly changing barometer with highs moving over the country in just a few days then low pressure systems following. Low pressure defiantly shuts the Cod down. It may be time to consider going back to sub-surface presentations. This proved to be the key for Kelvin and his mates who managed 14 Cod over this weekend on spinnerbait & Hardbodies.
Yellowbelly catches are starting to increase as we move from Winter towards Spring, it seems from the reports I have received that most fish are still coming from the standing timber. Bait fishing with small craybobs or if you can get them, shrimp, will be very effective on these fish. If fishing lures then small Blades & Vibes or Gulp minnow grubs would be the go to lures. It won’t be long now till the yellowbelly start to move onto the flats, so as you are moving around the dam keep your eye on the sounded for those tell-tale arches that show schooled yellas.

Regular visitors from Wangaratta, Rowan Harris Ryan Edwards along with another friend from Harvey Bay had a great session a couple of nights ago catching 2 fish measuring 111 & 116cm within a few minutes, you don’t often see 2 fish over a metre in the same photo.
