Lock 11 now closed for Mildura Weir repairs
27 May 2013 - MDBA

The Murray–Darling Basin Authority is reminding river users and boat operators that Lock 11 is now closed.

Goulburn–Murray Water is carrying out essential maintenance on the underwater concrete base of Mildura Weir.

MDBA spokesperson David Dreverman said "The weir pool will be drawn down for about 8 weeks and could take up to 11 weeks, depending on the extent of the work".

Boat access through the weir and Lock 11 will not be possible during this period.

The work is being completed now to align with lower irrigation and recreational demands.

Boat operators, stock owners and other river users are advised to adjust their activities in response to the changes in water levels, potential for increased salinity and the lock closures.

The MDBA will be closely monitoring any increase in salinity levels as a result of the lower water levels. If this does occur, dilution flows will be released upstream from Lake Mulwala.
