To expand -

Wyndham (about 50ks from Kununurra and closer to the coast) got 300mm over the weekend, we got just 100.  This added substantially to the Ord flood plain. Yesterday we had a 7.7 metre tide in the morning so we did the trip around from Wyndham into the Ord following the tide down river nearly 60ks. The bulge created was amazing to see.  the banks all broke as it moved up the river but even the tide could not reverse the flow coming out of the dam.  In one place we were  motoring around on top of a bank that was about 10 metres above the normal level.  At that point the water was not running with the river but flooding directly inland away from the river sweeping the boat along with it. see the pic of the water flowing past the boabs.  We found where that water reentered the river kilometres back downstream where it flooded into the back end of creeks.  We were fishing them when the tide had turned and the river came back within the banks. Initially the creeks were running clean but when they turned muddy the penny dropped as to what was happening.  That flow across country was about 8ks as the crow flies or 16 as the river wends.

We found a wobbly wallaby swimming mid current so pulled it aboard and set loose on shore.

A few pics from the day

G'day Dick

Great photos mate.

Have you had much to do with Home Valley Station? My father in Law has just (Feb) moved from Central Qld to start his new job there as a maintenance guru of the tourism side. (Think he looks after the generators too)

http://www.hvstation.com.au/

He wasn't really into fishing & boating until the locals up there started hooking him up (handline) with some fine barra recently. Now he loves it!

Looks to be a truly great place and I now know where my next holidays are taking me.

Keep the photos coming mate.

Cheers
Jono

G'day Jono

Yes know the place well, used it as my jump off point for weed work to the north of the station late last year.  I'm due back over that way next week to have a look at my handiwork by air.
