Just got back last night , fished up past thora on monday , it was a little dirty with all the rain and a bit hairy in the canoe but we only managed 1 bass , 4 herring and a big ugly fishtail catfish . The mate said it was the bigest catfish he had ever seen. We decided to go to Toonenba , got there monday night in the rain , woke up tuesday morning still raining and had our first look at the lake and it looked beautiful except for all the dirty water pouring into it , could see the fish smashing insects off the surface but couldn't get them to take our lures . everybody was packing up and leaving so we did the same as we didn't want to get stuck there , just as well because as we were leaving kyogle to go back to coffs the road was under water , so we had to go via lismore .  Im now back in Brisbane , very disapointed but keen to try them when we have a couple  of weeks of sunshine . Thanks to everybody for your advise  :thumbsup :thanks

I launched just above the bridge in Bellingen the other day but the rain made the river not very fishable. I went for a drive up past Thora but couldn't find any decent launch spots. All the bridge crossings I checked don't really have any parking area to leave a vehicle.

Where did u launch your canoe up past Thora? How far out did you go?

Brad , i think it was about 17k past the thora turn off , one of the bridges has a closed sign across road . We parked next to the signs and drifted down to the next bridge and one of us walked back and drove back down to the canoe . There were a few rapids we walked through plus a small section we had to carry the canoe through the bush as the water was too fast but if the water level drops it would be a great spot as the water was still pretty clear

Sounds like fun.

We went for a drive out to never never creek yesterday. Beautiful swimming spots but not ideal for kayak fishing. Very shallow with lots of flow. Crystal clear water tho & would be a hoot in sit in's to ride down the rapids.

Might post some pics later.
