Sunshine Coast dams under the spotlight

Sunshine Coast residents are being urged to register to have their say on the future recreation at Baroon Pocket and Ewen Maddock Dams.

Water Supply Minister Mark McArdle said Seqwater’s review into water recreation in the area will be released at a launch next Wednesday, 18 September 2013.

“Enjoying the outdoors is a big part of life on the Sunshine Coast. Many of us love nothing better than getting out and exploring our bushland and waterways, and visiting our dams,” Mr McArdle said.

“These recreation areas are public spaces and it’s important to hear from everyone involved – from the visitors to the people who live next to the recreation areas.

“I encourage everyone with an interest in Baroon Pocket and Ewen Maddock Dams to register to have their say.”

Mr McArdle said the discussion papers would outline the various activities currently available and provide an avenue for the community to formally submit any opportunities they see for recreation on and around the lakes.

“It’s important to strike the correct balance between recreation and environmental stability,” he said.

“Recreation on waterways and land must be managed in a sustainable and environmentally-friendly manner to ensure that there are no adverse impacts on water supply.”

The launch of the discussion papers will be held at 1.30pm, Wednesday, 18 September 2013, at the boardwalk at Maddock Park, Ewen Maddock Dam (off Mooloolah Connection Road).

Following the release of the discussion papers, the community will also be able to get involved by attending public information sessions and workshops as well as accessing information on Seqwater’s website and participating in online surveys.

Information sessions for Baroon Pocket and Ewen Maddock Dams are being held on 21 September at:
•Maleny - Maple Street (in front of the IGA) from 9am to 11am
•Landsborough – Maleny Street (in front of the newsagent) from 11.30am to 1pm
