Title: QB&FP - Out of DEEDI and into Transport & Main Roads
Post by: fishfolk on July 21, 2011, 10:38:07 AM
Just for information for those who are interested.

As of September 1, Queensland Boating & Fisheries Patrol will no longer sit within Dept of Employment, Economic Development & Innovation ( more importantly, out of what was essentially Primary Industry and Fisheries) and will transfer over to Maritime Safety Queensland ( Dept of Transport & Main Roads ). As that stands, that will mean QB&FP will  completely seperate from Fisheries Queensland. The new Director-General has gone to pains to ensure that the vital role of QB&FP in Fisheries Management will not be diminished.  For those who can remember, it seems a full circle has happened - back to the old Harbours & Marine ( I wonder if they will get those snappy uniforms of the old days)

I offer this information not as attempt to question the decision by the current government - IMO there are positives and negatives to this decision, nor have I offered this information to slur or trivialise the work that the QB&FP do, but more to inform, commentate and debate......cheers Fishfolk

Thanks for the info Fishfolk. It kind of makes sense is some ways... perhaps we might get some more enforcement coverage out in the field and avoid double ups.  :thumbsup

Cheers,

Absolutely nothing to do with the recent news stories about how big and bloated DEEDI has become...........

It will be interesting to see what eventuates.
What staff will remain with deedi and who will move across.
Will the current fisheries enforcement inspectors spend more time checking for out of date flares or be freed up to spend more time enforcing fishing regulations.
It would be a terrible shame if it turns out to only be a shuffling of bums on seats without any change to what is currently happening.
Would not the money being spent on bringing about the change be put to better use to help resolve some of the current staffing issues?
The mind boggles at the cost.
Complete set of new stationary new letterheads etc.
 Probably a new corporate logo.
New corporate uniforms.
Probably bonding weekends at some swank resorts.
Maybe I am just a cynic.
 Cheers
Ray

Nah, still got all the letterheads etc from when Goss did the same thing in the nineties.  ;D
