Title: Lake Borumba Recreation update
Post by: Editor on January 20, 2015, 08:50:58 PM
Lake Borumba temporarily closed to all water-based activities
Date: 20/01/2015   - Seqwater

As a precautionary measure and in the interest of public safety, Lake Borumba will remain closed to all water-based recreation activities until further notice due to the presence of blue-green algae. For further information please see our blue-green algae fact sheet .

The frequency of our regular water quality monitoring has been increased during this temporary closure. Water samples are tested at an independent laboratory, with the next results expected to be available on Thursday 22nd  January 2015.

At this time, indications are that the lake will not be reopened for the Australia Day long weekend.  Public safety is our priority. We will re-open the lake to water-based recreation as soon as water quality test results show it is appropriate to do so. We consider National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) guidelines and the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection blue-green algae guidelines in determining whether to restrict water-based activities when tests shows algae levels are high.
