Title: G'day all. New to the Forum
Post by: Mackerel Whisperer on September 30, 2010, 08:23:51 PM
G'day everyone

I'm Jono from The Caves, Central Queensland. (Just north of Rocky). I'm usually found chasing Mudcrabs & Mackerel. However I have been doing a bit of freshwater fishing of late and finding myself now looking for the next freshwater adventure.

I took my first trip to Awoonga back in Feburary and caught my first impoundment Barra @ 94cm and thats the last one so far but keen as to get back there and chase em again as soon as I can.

A good mate who goes by the name "Sooty" also got me onto my first Toga this year, Only small but still a Toga. And thats about it so far as quality fish go.

Now you's have got me looking at Yaks and Minn Kotas etc.  ;) ;) I could justify a Yak as the road I live on ends at a launch site into Alligator Creek wich inturn runs into the mighty Fitzroy River above the barrage (Freshwater). I reckon it would be great to get home from work and unwind with a paddle and a quiet fish.

I hope to make the most out of this Forum to help me on my freshwater adventures. It Looks Great.

Cheers
Jono

Hi Jonno,

Just a quick question , are there "crocogators" above the barrage? I have heard of other yak fishos frequenting croc infested waters , how do they deal with them? or do you just have to have big stones?

Cheers,
Dave.

G'day Dave

Crocs above barrage? Yes big buggers 4mtr+ and lots of them. I guess after growing up in this region its just another day on the water, I can't get around worrying about them or no fishing would get done. I guess Big Stones either way your looking at it.

This is one I spotted in Water Park Creek (Byfield area North of Yeppoon) a while back.

G'Day Jono,

I've called into Alligator Creek a few times & it looks fishy. Been very tempted to drop a kayak in there a few times.

If you're looking at getting into kayaks, talk to Tim that's got the produce at Farnborough & The Caves as well I think, he's a crazy keen kayaker. I went for a paddle with him at Waterpark Creek recently & am going to show him some of my favourite fishing spots up the Connors River / Funnel Creek on my next run north.

Cheers,

Fitz..

Welcome Jono,

Not sure that I'd be too keen yakkin with mud geckos but if it was the only way I could go fishin' I guess I'd give it a shot, with a very large yak.  Mentioning that you're Sooty's mate on you first post could go for or against you really. :o  Hope you enjoy the place mate.

I will see what Pete at The Caves Shop has got on offer. He's a top bloke too. I'm getting keener by the minute hanging round here. I shall have a kayak in no time!

Regards

Jono

Hey Sooty

Jono's a better man than me, I reckon that stuff tastes like horse you know what unless it's been on ice for about a week. And yes I can compare, a story I tell every now and again around a camp fire from when I had a pretty severe fall riding rough stock at a rodeo in Dirranbandi, a small Queensland town about 100k's south of St. George. Funny stuff now but back then, not so good.

Give me a XXXX any day!  :youbeauty
