FYI
Ray;LAFMA members/supporters,

Very Important Update ... 6th Dec 2014:-

Some great things have happened over the last few days:- (1). ...10000 bass went into Wyaralong dam on Sunday 30/11/14 and that was followed up with the release of 4800 very fit 45 to 50mm Mary River cod fingerlings on Thursday 4th Dec ... babies are all doing well  (2)... got word from Daniel Smith DAFF that:-

·        The Freshwater Consultation RIS has been released for public comment. Wyaralong Dam has been included in the proposed list of impoundments for inclusion in the SIP Scheme. Logan And Albert Fish Stocking Group should receive a letter in the mail about the RIS any day now. I encourage you to provide a submission. Here is the link to the RIS. https://www.getinvolved.qld.gov.au/gi/consultation/2211/view.html

LAFMA will be doing a submission so I encourage you all to log onto the web address above and also do a submission (complete the questionnaire online) .. feel free to provide me with any comments you have so that LAFMA's submission represents that of the members. Please do ASAP as submissions close 9/1/2015.

Files IMG_0018 and IMG_0019 attached refer to SIPS letter received Friday 5/12/14 from the Qld Government.

Mary River cod hatchery production:-

·        Mary River Cod hatchery production – A letter was sent April this year to hatchery operators seeking interest in producing Mary River Cod. Five hatcheries, including Hanwood, expressed interest in producing Mary River Cod fingerlings.  A draft broodstock and culture stock collection policy has been developed for all aquaculture species, including MRC. This draft policy outlines the number and locations of broodstock collection for MRC to minimise the risk from take. This policy is currently in the process of being signed off (I expect before xmas). Once this is signed off, a letter will be sent to the five interested hatchery operators seeking them to submit an application to amend or apply for a new broodstock collection permit.

The above info was from an email to LAFMA from Daniel Smith DAFF Friday 5/12/14 ... looks like our chances of getting cod fingerlings annually has just improved 500% .... with a good chance of getting onto the SIP and MR cod production looking better all the time ... things are looking good !!

Changes to Freshwater Fisheries legislation:-  refer attached files IMG_20 to IMG_24

As of 1/2/2015 there will be Freshwater Fisheries legislation changes as per the attached files including:- closed season for Mary River cod 1st Sept to 30 Nov Rivers and Impoundments; Greater protection for Murray cod; new 200m closures below dams that don't currently have a closure; changes to rules relating to funnel traps; new rules relating to set lines; prohibition on the use of marine baits in freshwater unless frozen, cooked or preserved; etc etc

There is no word in there about the progress of having Mary River Cod taken off the no take list for Wyaralong.  How difficult will that process be?
