A bit of help Please..
« on: April 13, 2012, 05:23:41 AM »
Hello there fellow fishers.
Am writing this post asking for a bit of help. Have been lucky enough to jag a few days off from work from the 25th to the 29th of april and want to go camping and fishing.
Can anyone give me some advice on a good spot to go. Usually go to Boondooma Dam for most of our camping and would go again without hesitation (Top spot for the kids) With a few things needed as follows if possible. We've got a 12ft tinnie and 3 small kayaks to take.
Have a Holden Captiva not so good at offroad driving yet.

Within 5 hours drive of the Gold Coast
Kid (I have 3 ages 3,6,8 very active) and dog (gotta take the other best mate) friendly.
A spot the missus would like while i go fishing with the kids (ie relaxing)
Maybe somewhere for the redclaw pots.
Chance to tackle some Bass or Goldens or Cod on lures.
Camp on the water maybe.

Any tips on spots would be GREATLY appreciated. Will post reports with pics(if work out how too) on return.
Thanks in advance. :?) :?) :?)
Dam or river camping it dosen't matter.
Not too crowded maybe but i know its hard these days.

One word “Cania”.

My daughter and I will be heading out there on the same dates.
They have great facilities at the Big 4 Caravan park, water park, pools, bird feeding, out door movies, wood fired pizza, camp fires and all the other usual park facilities. Personally I think it’s worth the extra couple of dollars to stay there, as there is plenty to keep the kids entertained.  If you want to feed the birds take a couple of kilos of sunflower seeds and the kids will have a ball.

The fishing is always good, the dam has a concrete ramp and picnic facilities. I have a similar issue not setup for off road.

Plus there a plenty of good walking trails in the gorge, when not fishing.

P.S. need to be prepared for the cold, Cania is the Stanthorpe of Central Queensland

Regards
Earl

Lake Borumba or Somerset would be my pick.

The advantage of Borumba is being able to paddle downstream in Yabba Ck in your kayaks close to the camp grounds.

Hope the link helps your decision.

Cheers Dave
