The PRFMA are currently working on a draft submission for the SEQ Water recreational review. Public access for bank fishing and paddle craft being the the outcome sought as this is was what was intended since the inception of the management plan. Some access for electric only boats is also to be included in the submission to give some access to anglers who may be unable to use paddle craft. The presence of cabomba weed will be the main impediment to electric access but with some rigorous control at the boating access point this should be acheivable.

Regards
Steve.

And a year on, we are still waiting for some news!
High chance of a new Government in under 6 months, if they dont get things sorted soon, its all likely to go back the the drawing board.

The stocking group was advised by SEQ Water that the Draft Recreational Managagement Plan will not be released until the Flood Inquiry is completed.
On a brighter note the inital stocking of Bass are being caught up to 40cm, Goldens to 50cm, and Toga being caught regularly.
MBRC are continuing funding as are DEEDI with the RFEP grant.

Must of missed that in the minutes.
A handy excuse for more delays, or a genuine requirement you reckon?

As both NPD and Kurwongbah are covered by the same Rec Management Plan Flood Inquiry would relate more to NPD you would think.

Has made no difference to the waterskiers or the locals who launch their petrol powered tinnies from their back yards to go fishing.
 Cheers

I believe we won't see anything released until after the election now.

"Can Do" Campbell has a clear history of being anti-fishing / anti access to our stocked lakes in SEQ, being one of the major blockers to better boating access to Lake Wivenhoe via his seat on the board.

There is only one small arm of the lake that the water ski people dont use and any more than 10 max paddle craft would be overcrowded. Most ski people are at the lake sat and sun and it would be hard to keep out of thier way in the area they use. Rowers are mainly training mon to fri and only on lake on weekends if they have a regatta. As for the cabomba weed I cant see anything being done about its spreading. Rowers have power boats with them coaching, ski boats have no wash down points when exiting water and as Ray said the locals that have dwellings on the bankside are in and out of the water with power boats and fishing whenever they feel like it.

There is a  lot of the lake that the ski boats dont use.
Lots of bankside residents access the Lake in various craft as do other fisherman now, not allowed but can you blame them create the fishery and they will come.
As for macrophytes a fact of life in many impoundments, adapt, use techniques that allow you to fish them.
Bottom line is that a fantastic fishery has been created right in the major population centre with the stocking group and council commited to maintain and improve it.

As a water storage Kurwongbah would be close to redundant with the volume it supplies compared to demand now-a-days, especially with the far larger storage of Lake Samsonvale right next door. The kabombah weed rules out using this lake for environmental flows. That leaves recreation & a good place for ducks to swim in.

I knew full well that when I wrote the fish management plan for Kurwongbah & pushed to get the program rolling that as soon as there were fish in there, people would want to fish there, and that natural progression would lead to kayaks/canoes in the first instance. It makes sense..... I recon a round table chat could resolve conflicts with the packward paddlers & noise boats fairly easily.

Went for a quick fish before the stocking group meeting last night. Parked and and fished one of the easily accessed public access points for an hour or so. Caught 2 Bass 30cm,  a 20cm Spanglie and a 50 ish Toga. Was targeting Toga, would most likely have caught more Bass if targeting them.

Pinched this pic from Denis, from yesterday morning walking the bank from a public access point.
