My wife caught a tagged bass today . Just gave the DPI a call on 1800 077 001 ,turns out this fish is getting quite old . They were able to tell me that when this fish was tagged , it was 33cm long , in Lake Somerset , and that it was tagged on the 10th of October 1997 !!
Today it measured 51cm and it was released back into the Brisbane river . She was quite stoked to of landed this fish to say the least.
Cheers,
Dave.

Catching a tagged fish can be exciting- the story shared by the info at hand can paint a cool picture about fish.

Mate the Sewell's are on fire.
4 weeks ago with you and a cod on the border rivers and now Allison with a river escapee.
Well done.

Haven't heard back about that cod Steve. I asked the gentleman tonight about that cod , it hasn't been logged in the system . Maybe Brian? ( Glenlyon caretaker ) has misplaced the tag info we gave him. ::)
Cheers,
Dave.

I'll follow it up when I'm there on the next research survey. :thumb
Those Dumaresq /Severn (Qld) tagged cod may not be logged in the normal SUNTAG system as its not part of that program.
Which river was the cod on Dumaresq or upstream from that?

We guided Dave & well done Allison for landing a cracker!! :youbeauty
The tag info tells us one of two things:
A- Bass are terribly slow growing, and/or
B- sticking a spear tag / T tag into the back of a bass slows its growth
Tagging any fish in Somerset these days is redundant. We know movement patterns & growth rates for fish with a spear tag in their back.
Cheers,
fitzy..

From memory Fitz it came from section 4

Good fish Al. Kamakazi Bass doing the big jumps. Bunging one of those T Tags in a Bass is akin to shoving a star picket into a cow to see how it grows and where it walks to.

Al, any info on the tagger??
It was probably a member of Brisbane Valley Anglers who were one of the main tagging groups for Somerset Dam around that time.
Good to see it survived 2 wall hoppings over that time as well, damn hardy fish and deserved re-releasing for someone else to catch or live out her life after such a journey.
cheers Brad
