Just wondering what peoples oppinions are on the Quality of spring fishing for impoundment Barra after a relatively cold winter. Up in FNQ this year we have had probably the coldest winter I have experienced in the 6 years I have been up here and have a feeling that when the turn around happens that it will be sudden and significant. I also have feeling that it should trigger some impressive feeding in the Barra lazing around in Tinaroo. What do the more experienced Impoundment fisho's think. If you fish for Bass in SQ by the way feel free to discuss bass behaviour as well in these circumstances. I reckon they would be similar.

I recon barra and bass are almost at opposite ends of wat happens. While both are very catchable in springtime, the barra are just firing up when the prime bass time is slowing somewhat.
Barra growth rates definately show a hiatus during winter, with the peak growth rates coinciding with the warmer water temps.
I think that is to do with when the spawn normally takes place for the species; bass are late winter, early spring, barra are a few months later in the height of summer.
