Seqwater advises that due to rainfall in the catchment, Atkinson Dam is currently spilling.

FYI- Water overflowing from Atkinsons Dam flows back into Buaraba Creek, which flows into Lockyer Creek which flows over O'Rielly's Weir and into the Brisbane River just below Wivenhoe Dam. Within 24 hours the water down from this overflow may see the Brisbane River rise and turn dirty.

Had an old gentleman from Coominya tell me about what Buraba Creek was like back in his father's day and his grandfathers. The Creek prior to clearing for agriculture was a series of deep rock pools/reaches that held copious quantities of "cod".

Once the surrounding areas were cleared it just silted up and stopped flowing, then the fish moved on.

If you are concerned about road closures or other flood impacts, you should contact your local council.  River level information can be obtained from the Bureau of Meteorology website, www.bom.gov.au (http://www.bom.gov.au)

THIS INFORMATION WILL BE UPDATED IF ANY SIGNIFICANT CHANGES OCCUR.

Atkinson's Dam spills into Buaraba Creek, which flows into Lockyer Creek & then the Brisbane River. This may effect water levels and flows on these waterways. Ed
