First glance I'd say Barcoo Grunter..... but the catchment is wrong. Am curious, how big was its mouth? Is hard to tell in the pictures you posted. A sooty will have a much larger mouth than most other grunters around. Could be a sooty grunter which have been established up the Isaac, Connors, Funnel Creek arm of the Fitzroy catchment.

Could be a silver perch or a Leathery Grunter. Leathery Grunter are endemic to the Fitzroy catchment and silver perch have been stocked. If that's a leathery then it's a cracker....

Thanks fellas

Its mouth was pretty small. (10cent piece). Caught it on a bit of steak.

I'll settle for leathery. any good to eat? A Bushy mate that caught it was going to eat it, mind you he eats catties & tandanus too.

Cheers
Jono

G'day Jono

Leathey Grunter are supposed to be terrible to eat, hence the name. But don't let me put you off, give one a try.
