Here's some pictures from the Upper Brisbane River taken before the floods of January 2011
All pictures are from Toogoolawah upstream past Moore, Linville and Avoca Vale.
There's at least one bridge shown here that got washed away in the floods.

The Alf Williams Bridge got smashed.

Note the common practice of farmers to put barbed wire across the river.
It's a rediculous piece of the water act where the Qld Govt openly admit they don't give a hoot about our waterways in that landowners whose land is adjascent to non-tidal watercourses can basically do as they like with the portion of crown land which form the banks & bed of the river. That includes granting or denying access, running cattle on it which cave in the banks & cr@p in the water. There is no cost to the landowner & they may extract as much water as they like without need of a permit or payment.
Little wonder the Brisbane River Cod is extinct & the Mary River Cod is critically endangered. >:(

A lovely sight to see cattle swimming across out public waterway, stop on the far shore lifting it's tail and cr@p in the water on the way out. Charming.....

Yet more fences across water ways. Established trees are the exception along much of the river; being far too valuable as fence posts and firewood and competing with grasses. A pity said mentioned fence posts aren't run along the high bank of the river to keep the cattle off the banks.

Some nice country & photos there Gary, thanks for sharing. It is a shame that in this day & age rules are not in place to enforce protection of our rivers. Just another reason I want to get into conservation & land management.

Have been talking with local council & DERM regarding road reserves to the river. Frustrating to see access points that have been used by the public forever get fenced off only to be replaced by cow craping areas for farmer brown.
There's currently a review of the Land Act, I'll be making submissions regarding this & would encourage other individuals, groups & bodies to do the same.

Ive been Trying to do the same Andrew but the study areas just arent compatable with me ... that and my shitbox car just blew up.
There was a snippet in the local rag about the greenies around here up in arms about the logan rivers health because of silt from the floods... half of it is from cattle yes but if anyone bothered to look at the river before it has always been like, for years.
I think the upper brisbane river has more going for it and an effort to protect areas or just banks from errosion should be made.

I agree Gary. Our title for our property goes to the middle of the creek running behind our property not the high bank level. Think it has something to do with when the title was drawn. As the creek is subjected to significant rises and falls during flooding events, we needed to ensure stability of the bank, so ours has been fenced off at the high bank level to protect the riparian zone. We have had to provide off creek watering points. Unfortunately, the weeds have increased dramatically with no animal pressure on the zone, but that is one of the issues with the exclusion. The issue of fencing across creeks is an issue and part of the give and take agreements.

You're to be appluaded Steve :Clap) There's land management & then there's land management. You're not alone in best practice for our waterways, yet still, it appears, to be the minority. Wish there were more like you & yours.
