Title: Hinze Dam is rising on morning of 26.1.12
Post by: Dodge on January 26, 2012, 05:02:48 PM
Went for drive to check out the rise of water in Hinze Dam with Wazza [Seadog] and all the pics were taken when the river gauge said the water was 7.80m below the top.

Aside from the ramp pictures the biggest impact is evident when looking at the big gum on Ragsies Reach, normally well and truly dry, it now stands in the water.....pic1.jpg

Majority of pics were taken at the eastern ramp or from the approach road, while the pic with Wazza standing next to his Discovery is the western ramp....pic 7jpg

At both ramps the turnaround is about 2m from the waters edge

Gee thanks Dodge

I have been watching the height of the dam with all this rain around, the bass should be up on the edges well and truly now...

Cheers

Dam capacity increased by 20% in a couple of days and probably more to come.
The ramps will be a lot more user friendly now.

Has risen 5.7m so far. This new lot of rain we are copping now will give it a bit more if it gets that far south. Got another 7.5m to go to hit full supply.

Steve only one turnaround on each ramp.

Before this present water rise, did notice the majority of trailer boats were rigging in the car park at top and just backing down the full ramp length. Very few were using the turnarounds.

In this old picture of the east ramp [taken 9/10] the water level at present is onto the bottom of the concrete ramp and you can see the turn just above at right. The car park is at the head of the concrete ramp, and the west ramp is the same as this one.

Thanks for that mate, most dams people rig in the carpark and reverse down the ramp anyway it seems easier. Still havent got around to having a look myself last time i was there i was still using the old western ramp.

Cheers

It might be the only place to fish this weekend unless you want to drive for hours.

I was there a day before the rain, the dam was 48%, which was bottom of the boat ramp, went there yesterday it was beuat day, the water just started lapping the u turn bay, went again this morning the bottom part of the u turn was covered with water.

yesterday morning where I fish sometimes, is 5m deep now it was 10m deep, this evening will be at list another 3m higher.
The way the dam looks now is magic, water covered trees every where, but the fishing was terible, didn't see one school of fish anywhere, got one bass that was it, even spin fishers and trollers didn't do any good when I spoke to them.
here are some pic's if I can down load them.

Going to have to develop a new style of fishing called " fishing in the trees" as very little clearing was done. Will take a while to settle down and also locate the fish.
Hope they have sold enough permits to be able to stock this year.
