Title: Colleges Bull Sharks
Post by: Chickscanfish on January 29, 2016, 07:13:29 PM
Hey guys, this is my first post on what looks like an awesome forum,

I have been fishing down at colleges crossing a few times and have managed some good bream up to 34cm but recently I was told about the increasing bull shark population around the area and would love to chase after a few. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on where, when and how to go about it. Anything will help out :)
P.S I realise this is a freshwater forum but I guess with the water at colleges being all but complete fresh I thought it was reasonable to ask haha

Thanks,
Brittany

Where you are catching the bream, put a 4/0 hook in the bream and toss it back out, or go down stream a little and fish from the fishing platform in kookaburra park, that also is a good area for bullies.

Grey catfish is the best live bait at colleges just put the hook in tail that's where they bite 100% of the time .
Cheers Joseph.

Okay thanks for the replies guys, so there's nowhere in particular that produces more fish? I was thinking they might prefer the deeper holes but do they instead just cruise around?
Thanks

There are deeper holes where the edges are good spots but not accessible from the bank, they are down near where the ski boats turn around on the outside of the downstream bend. Seen plenty caught from the park between the ramp and the fishing platform at Kookaburra.

Okay thanks, so Kookaburra is the go? Might have to give it a crack this coming weekend :)

Just make sure that any fish you use for bait is over the legal size limit.

if your fishing kookaburra for sharks try chucking a cast net around the ramp as theres a few bony bream around at the moment good bait, they must be getting a few sharks right now,i was out there the other day and there were small shark carcases dumped in the shallows :P

Hello,

I just noticed this topic today, I was about to ask the same question. I have been to colleges crossing before the floods and yes, good spot for sharks, we were trying to catch lungfish , part of a research project with UQ.

Thanks for reminding me, might have to go there with my surf rod with wire leader, 160lb multistrand with 100lb braid, caught a few sharks in the past with that rod.

Kookaburra Park? I assume on the high tide would be ideal?

For that location, floating bait with balloon or leave it on the bottom?

Any advice is welcome.
