With much anticipation the majority of the Tasmania's inland waters, open for angling from Saturday 3 August and remaining open until the 27 April 2014. The IFS has been busily stocking a variety of waters around the state in preparation for the coming season. The weather forecast is for cold windy conditions with snowfalls on the highlands but this shouldn’t prevent the fish from biting. Anglers should go prepared or target more sheltered waters in the lowlands.

This year the Inland Fisheries Service is giving away a boat package valued at over $22,000. Anglers 18 years and over that buy a full season or five season licence before the 30 November 2013 will go into the draw. The boat package will be on display at Four Springs Lake in the state's north on Saturday and Sunday.

Fisheries expected to be popular for the season opening include the following:

Arthurs Lake - Central Highlands

Woods Lake - Central Highlands
