Lake Wivenhoe Today
« on: September 18, 2011, 06:37:43 PM »
Launched at Billies Bay and trolled across to Platypus Cliffs then to Brad's Point and back to Platypus.  Plenty of fish showing, one around 30 fell off at the boat just off Brad's point, one hit and run with no hook-up and one of those unstoppables off Brad's Point.  Saw plenty of signs of fish on the sounder, with lots of bait schools and birds working.  I think Wivenhoe is getting ready to fire up again.

What sort of depth were the fish holding on?

Good to know there's fish out there, the more reports (good or bad) we get the better idea we can gather on how the fishery has been impacted by the floods & how long it might take to recover.

fitz..

Good signs of scattered fish and bait balls over the flats area.  Huge bait balls and plenty of arches off Brad's Point with a lot of bird action, although a lot were Grebes.

I've never fished at Wivenhoe and would be keen to get out there one day so if there are a few crew getting out one day and don't mind a dam novice (dam not damn :))) tagging along I would appreciate picking some experienced brains (sounds bad like a vulture on a carcass :o) as I don't have a sounder yet. Some of those horses are making my recent catches look like fingerlings. PAT.

I went out to Lake Wivenhoe running the sounder & trolling a lure while looking yesterday. Didn't score any bass, only a couple of fork tailed catfish.

Scattered fish showing on the sounder sitting in the thermals with only one decent show of fish that I picked for a pack of golden perch sitting on a rocky outcrop at 25 feet down. Jigged at them for 5 minutes and soon developed as much interest as they were showing in my lure before moving on.

A nice lake to be on compared to Somerset tho, even if a big chunk of the bass have gone AWOL....

Still a few out there.  This fat fella was off Brad's Point with a few of his mates.
