Hamon Cove Recreation Area at Lake Wivenhoe – possible closures from 1-12 July (UPDATED Tuesday, 2 July 2013)

Seqwater will be conducting a low intensity, prescribed, fuel reduction burn on its land at the Hamon Cove Recreation Area and the adjacent land called Alverley Park. The period this burn is planned to proceed starts from Monday, 1 July to Friday, 12 July 2013. At present, Wednesday, 10 July 2013 is the most likely burn date, subject to conditions. This prescribed burn is being undertaken to reduce the build-up of combustible fuel materials and assist with pest management activities.

This prescribed burn is part of Seqwater’s ongoing fire management program and is being carried out before the onset of the summer fire season to reduce the risk of bushfires and to help remove any potential threat to neighbouring properties.

All practical and physical precautions will be taken to ensure the safety of personnel, the general public, residences, wildlife and the terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, during the prescribed burn activity. The timing of the burn will take into consideration wind direction and weather conditions to minimise the concentration and impact of smoke.

Many thanks for that advice, that explains why I could not access the area at that time.
