Title: Clitrex 490 Cruiseabout
Post by: ScottyG on May 03, 2014, 06:36:26 PM
Can Any one help

We have just purchased a new boat
When we picked it up I was told that the boat had been pressure tested for leaks
We have been on the water twice since we pick it up. The problem we have is I drained about 3 litres of water out of it
We fitted the boat out with a 90 horse power etec  motor runs well but I have heard they give lots of problems .
Before I brought the boat the etec had a lot of good things said about it that's why we fitted it out with one.
Has any one had any problems with new boats making water or any problems with the new etecs ?

3 litres isn't much.  Easiest way to check is to make trailer level, with the bungs in, run a couple of hundred litres into it and see if any leaks out.

It'll be the sticker on the side of the boat that will be the problem....  :-X

Thanks

Looks like we have a comedian amongst us
I will try and get on to the guys we purchased the boat from. The only issue is we are 10 hours away form there shop
3 litres don't sound much but when the boat is brand new one would think it wouldn't leak at all
I think it could be from the rivets around the bung. The issue when we picked the boat up the guy told us he pressure tested the boat for leaks and if it was the rivets he should have picked it up.  :)

Like 'basser said. Park it with the bungs in, fill it with water, and look for the leaks.

Could be a pin hole which wont let water in while sitting on the water, but under pressure of going at speed might force some water thru. Any spray coming over the cowel when underway?

Is there a livewell or pump pickup fitted to the boat? If so check for leaks in the hose to the pump and then then to the well. Even if not used, again water can force thru a pickup under way.

If its the rivets around the bung I'd be doing it myself. Just drill the rivet out, put a quality sealand underneath the bung base & rivet it back on AND then put some sealant over the rivets once done (water can get thru the river centre)

Cheers,

I think you'll find that it is impossible to pressure test an alloy hull.

Cant pressure test the hull
Problem will most likely be one of the skin fittings, loose bung, maybe the engine bolt holes are not sealed
3 litres is not much water, it may have already been in the boat?
If it was an unsealed bung or skin fitting, there will be alot more than 3 litres in the boat

I purchased a new Stacer 449 Bay Master and first time out end up with about 2 or 3 litres of water draining out of the bung hole, checked the bungs and noticed creased rubber end washer so I replaced it and then used grease on the threads and never had a problem since, could have had the water in it from sitting in the boat sales yard from the beginning but doesn't hurt to keep the bungs in good nick.
