Fish fig feeding frenzy
« on: June 18, 2011, 11:50:42 AM »
Shot these yesterday underneath a large overhanging fig tree.  Bower birds were plucking the ripe fruit from the tops of the tree where they had a bit more sun on them. They would take a bite, drop the fruit and go back for another.  Sootys were lined up underneath waiting for the tucker to drop in on them.  When the wind or a bird knocked off a green one it was rejected pretty quick and left to float away.

Last pic is red cliff reflected in the water with the wind distorting it a bit.

cool, love seeing those sort of things.

Saw a big old cod under a tree full of nesting shags a couple of years ago, just sitting there waiting. Didn't have my black lure with the red head with me at the time, carried it ever since!

Great pics Dick, that watery reflection is a top shot too lots of movement. That looks like a big Archer fish hanging around there, unless it's a small Sooty. I've seen some big Archer fish though, got one on a Sooty lure up near Law Hill once, we couldn't work out who was spitting water at us for a while.
Cheers mate,
John

Not a big sooty John the archer is about 5" long. Marvelous how they get their gob around the fig.

Think you'd have to serve fig in a pudding wouldn't you Mugs  ;)

ver y cool. some great photography there mate. Love the pic where the Sooty is sucking on the fig. was imagining it popping it up in the air for the archer fish to take shots at it.."pull..bang" clay pigeon style.. :)

Yeah it looks like the fish is just nudging it, no where near the case. Just lucky with the shot timing and the shutter speed on that one.
