Work Begins on Brewarrina Weir Fishway

After many years in the planning the construction of a rock‐ramp fishway at the Brewarrina weir is finally underway. The new fishway will have a positive impact on native fish populations in the Barwon‐Darling River, including Murray cod and golden perch which don’t
benefit from the current, poorly designed fishway.
The design and construction of the fishway involved significant consultation with the Brewarrina community and local Indigenous people are employed on various aspects of the project. It is jointly funded by the Western Catchment Management Authority, NSW Environmental Trust, Murray Darling Basin Authority, NSW Recreational Fishing Trusts and State Water Corporation, as part of the Brewarrina to Bourke Demonstration Reach Project.
