Dodging the mud , Brisbane River
« on: March 22, 2011, 08:17:02 PM »
Went for a quick fish in the yak in the Brisbane River , downstream from the Hwy crossing just out of Fernvale . Launched from the 'beach' near where the old hwy bridge used to be . Water levels are still highish and very murky , but I headed for the junction of the river with Pryde Creek . The outflow from this creek is alot cleaner than the current situation in the Brisbane . You get the idea where I went from this google map ,

http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Wivenhoe+Pocket,+Queensland&aq=1&sll=-25.335448,135.745076&sspn=51.854558,78.662109&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Wivenhoe+Pocket+Queensland&ll=-27.427338,152.652926&spn=0.025559,0.038409&t=h&z=15

Its the larger of the 2 creeks accross from Zanows gravel lease .

Anyway , got plenty of tickles on the spinnerbaits and managed to land a few rats. Been a long time between drinks for me in the Brisbane this summer.

Cheers
Dave.

Wow, that's cleaned out the creek nicely... You couldn't paddle up to that bridge before the floods. Opens up some more fishing water. Are the rocks still there at the mouth?

fitz..

Still hard to tell , the brown tide is still covering where they used to be. Plenty of bank is missing just downstream where the rapids are . Also the rocky cliff on the upstream side of the mouth has been rearranged with a couple of very large gums now in the water.

Cheers,
Dave.

I've been hanging out for a Twinnies to Savages run.  I arranged to take a guy I met in PNG in October last year and the conditions still haven't been right.  That's 5 months without a paddle on my home water!

Nah mate,

I was called "the solo man " in last weekends adventure chasing the green fish , so in keeping with the name , I did it the hard way and paddled back up to the hwy where I was parked.

Cheers,
Dave.
