Caboolture lakes, Waraba Weir stocking 22 1 12
« on: January 22, 2012, 12:53:10 PM »
Caboolture Fish Stocking Group did their annual stocking of The Caboolture river and Waraba creek Weirs today, with Bill Proctor supplying the bass.

These are a little unique for the south east, being two of the few stocked waterways not controlled by SEQ Water.

16,000 bass went in. This is one of the more difficult stockings I participate in as the stocking group collect the bass from the central point at the Lakes, then drive all over the District putting buckets in here and there in all the feeder creeks and where we can gain access to the river / creek (most of the banks are private house blocks or to steep to negotiate). Personally I know fish can swim so I would be happy to put them all in the one spot, but the boys like to do the multiple drops.

So we all showed up, quite a good turn out really, with a couple of people from local fishing clubs also pitching in to help, we put about 3/4 of the fish in to the lakes area then all headed off in different directions to add fish elsewhere.

I did the Waraba ck weir today, (which the fish cant get to from the main weir unless the river rises a metre or more and backs up over the weir), putting about 3000 fingerlings in there.

Last two photos my setup for transporting the fingerlings up to the Waraba ck Weir. 240 volt aerators run by Inverter in 25 litre buckets with about 1500 fingerlings per bucket.

Great result Andrew for the stocking group, well done! :youbeauty

You will need a new set of tyres for that Ford Fish Fingerling Xpress vehicle of yours. :GoodPost)

Hi Binder. Congratulations to the club on fish releases.  :Clap)

Is Waraba weir the Caboolture weir or is this another spot?

Are you allowed to paddle a canoe on the river above caboolture weir?
