Title: Upper Mooloolah river - has anyone ?
Post by: 4weightfanatic on September 19, 2011, 07:50:15 AM
Just wondering whether anyone has fished the upper Mooloolah river and especially the Hidden Lakes area ? I'd imagine the lakes are pretty shallow but thinking that they may hold some Tarpon as the weather warms and may be only accessible to kayaks which is good. I'm on holidays this week (bad timing with the school holidays) and so are looking for spots away from the crowds. Like the Maroochy there are definately fish up in the fresh but I think either the turf farms or more likely the sand mines upstream of the Bruce Hwy turn the river to mud whenever it rains but until they come the river isn't too bad at the moment with water vis about 1.5 feet - Yep that's good for the Mooloolah. Anyway I've fished the upper once and landed one bass and got bricked by another but there are heaps of good looking snags. Here's a couple of pics. PAT.

Nice spot Pat, I've fished all that area from the mouth at Mooloolaba to the Hwy, the hidden lakes and beyond as the river is about 70km's long.
