takrat in FNQ
« on: May 08, 2011, 07:56:56 PM »
I'm up in Far North Qld for the next monthor so and heading out to Tinaroo tomorrow. They tell me it's up to 100%  so I'll see what happens. After that it will be mostly in the salt. Daintree River, Hinchinbrook channel etc. I'll put in a post here and there provided the fishing gods are smiling. It's been a long wet up here so I'm hoping for good things. Still a bit cloudy, but the temps are mid 20's on the tableland and high 20's down on the coast. Pulled up alongside a nice little creek yesterday and tossed a few softy's around. got nailed by lots of small Archer fish but little else.
Cheers,
JD

fishing is not essential to life, it's much more important

There's Jungle Perch & Sooty Grunter in the Barron River below the powerstation to Lake Placid. Can rock hop your way on the road to the power station.
Mossman Gorge has stacks in there, get there early before the tourists do...
Mulgrave River has Sooty Grunter & JPs on there.
Russell River a bit further south has both as well.

Oh yeah, north of Mareeba is Lake Mitchell which has Sooty Grunter & Northern Saratoga in it.

Cheers,

Fitz..

Most of those places are too well known and too hard to fish. There are some secret little creeks that produce far higher numbers of good size JP's in a much more favourable environment.

Averitable smorgasbord of local info blokes. Thanks Brett I'll get in touch sounds like those spots may be great for a day trip. I'm a bit short on small hard bodies but have some good sp's on board and a light spin rod as well. I just got back from a couple of days out at Tinaroo, nice and quiet out there mid week, but I can only imagine what it's like on weekends and pub hols. Water temp there is around 25deg.
Cheers
JD
