Yes but, if swfsa doesn't stock it. Who will?
The qld government?

Something had to be done and its a good start with what swfsa having decided on doing.
In reality it should be the Commonwealth Government.  Same as Trout Cod.

I think a review of populations in the systems that the mrc recovery program stocked over 10 years ago I think. I believe their efforts payed off in just about all their locations.

In reality it should be the Commonwealth Government.  Same as Trout Cod.

In respect to MRC, both State and Federal Governments have thrown their hands in the air and walked off the field (outside of the Mary river catchment). Unless stocking of MRC is done by someone , the status quo of protection legistlation and population size and distribution will never change any time soon.

At the end of the day, SIP funds are not being used anyway.

Long live the carp and cichlid eaters!!!!!!

Weren't  Mary River Cod only endemic to the Mary River system?  Could we be just fooling ourselves with trying to translocate them all over the place?  I'm not smart enough to know if there is a reason that Mary River Cod were only present in the Mary River system for millions of years.  Anyway, this discussion isn't about that.
Yes, Mary River Cod will be stocked into O'Rielly's Weir when fingerlings are available.  No, you cannot target them as they are totally protected.  Wait patiently until there is a self sustaining population and then lobby to have the protection lifted so people can go and catch them.

That's interesting...! The swfsa have attended the Lockyer Valley stocking group meetings and know where and what is stocked in the Lockyer Creek ??
Maybe if they had they would actually know what there talking about !

I for one haven't. But in this context, I've been referring to waters impounded by O'Rielly's Weir upstream towards the junction, as noted in the first post of the topic. I'm not sure if you've possibly read more into it than what is intended. Are you saying that the lvsg have stocked Mary River Cod into waters impounded by O'Reilly's Weir?

Can you shed any light on what's been stocked on weirs further upstream on the Lockyer and / or Laidley Creek, tributaries etc? The more information shared about restocking activities the better.  :thumb

All stocking of the creek/s have been with private funding, there have been no grants or state or federal monies used, one of the conditions of the funding was that where and what is stocked is not to be made public. This is due to private properties having 99% access to the area's and that policing of the creek is almost if not totally impossible. That was at 2011/12.

Outside of the listed impoundments they have been stocked as founder populations as part of the recovery plan (MRCRRP) to replace the extinct/extirpated SEQ Cod. Could tell you pretty much everywhere they have been stocked(not where the Lockyer group stocked theirs but know how many) Could give a fairly accurate report on the results thus far in the SEQ Catchments and populations therein BUT will not on a public forum due to the unfortunate fact that there are people who will deliberately target them even in breeding season.
Rarely take pics, never post any, but here is one for aussiebasser. This one(a female) lives near several males close to where there has been a small fish that is definitely a recruitment fish not a stocked fish captured, so they do without doubt what Cod do when translocated into the other catchments.

The cats out of the bag now Mac.  Going by what you've stated about the group stocking further up the creek, you wouldn't be able to share any info with the group stocking above O'Rielly's weir anyway then?

Why say anything at all?
