Post by: Novice on June 20, 2011, 07:03:54 PM
Finished work at lunchtime and thought the weather was good enough for a crack at the BigW . Launched around 2pm from Hayes with no wind at all .

You may of noticed the absence of any fish photos.....for me , not even a nible , tried everything but soft plastics. Alison at least got a hit on a spinnerbait but dropped it after a good run.

Cheers,
Dave.

Good pics mate, you're right not a fish to be seen at least not in the 'yak. Was thinking of going up there soon but might hold off for a little while. Good signs on the sounder though.

Ahhhhhh That's my puddle. I just love Wivenhoe in winter with that glassed out water.

Dave I'm not convinced those fish on the sounder aren't whiskered grunting bass,,, not alot of red showing, however it depends on the setting you've got that Humminbird set on. Could be rats as well; you know the sub 50cm set.

It's almost grid pattern time out there for me I'm thinking.

Unable to sink the Hobie , we headed off into Billies bay.

Nice glassy conditions prevailed again today.

After 2 days of fishing , a fish finally , one of Fitzy's fabled Whiskered grunting bass.

The long troll back to the ramp.

There is a funky dark green algal milkshake happening in Billies at the moment , but the bony bream seem quite plentiful in this part of the dam compared around in front of Hayes.

Cheers,
Dave.

Hi Novice, checking out more of your photos.Looks beautiful up there this time of year.Im going on my first kayak /camping trip in August to Maroon and Moogerah for a week, just hope the weather is as good then, and the scenery as beautiful.I,d even settle for a few of your "grunting bass" if I cant get the real thing.Am in the process of making hand carved lures to add to my limited  store bought varieties.Oh well ,we,ll see wont we.
Keep up the reports ,they just make me wish holidays were sooner.

Thanks for sharing Dave, great photos too.

What throws me off going to BigW more is it's size of vastness, not knowing where to start even looking for fish, let alone the thought of that paddling involved.

Awesome place though, the scenery looks sensational at water level.

thanks for the pics. I haven't fished there for 15 years at a guess. I could feel the serenity in those shots. Tho i guess you'd rather of had it broken by the odd Bass splash.

Thats not a grunting Bass, its a Wivanhoe Trout.
