The section on Weed Management in the Kurwongbah Overview is worth a read.

Pretty disappointing turnout from fishers today only 6 all PRFMA members.
Skiers and rowers well represented same result in the surveys it seems.

I tried to talk to people to attend including non PRFMA members and they all seem to have the same opinion that SEQ water will do what they want and have already made up their mind.
Very disappointing in my opinion.
It was good to hear input from different diverse groups some of which I was unaware of.
I made a point of speaking to some of the leaseholders and in general they were happy with the existing users but were concerned with open access for any form of boating /yaks. Mainly having concerns for the security of their livestock with duffing already being prevalent in the area.
Got a bit sidetracked talking to one old long term resident and will endeavor to catch up with him in the future as my great grandfather was a blacksmith in Dayboro.
Was one person in our group that I felt like ramming my walking stick down his throat. He would not listen to anyone and wanted open access everywhere particularly for yaks.
He was even looking at farm dams on the maps and wanted access to them.
In retrospect I should have got off my bum and went to Somerset/Wivenhoe meetings and I would have been much better prepared.
I doubt if there will be any changes to Kurwongbah due to SEQ waters concern about the risk of spreading cabomba weed to Sampsonvale.
Cheers
Ray

Well done for attending folks.  :Clap)

I would have liked to have attended but had to work unfortunately.
Then did a talk for QORF/SEQWater at the Ekka late this arvo. They've thrown some money around looking at their large floor space at the show...

Very disappointed at the general apathy of recreational fishers and their numerous representative bodies/organisations thus far in this review process. Given that some $100 000 plus of recreational fishing grant money from three levels of government and thousands of volunteer hours by the PRFMA went towards establishing and maintaining the Lake Kurwongbah fishery it is shameful to see this waste of taxes, levies, work by a volunteer community group and support from too many others to list go to waste. To be locked  out of it on the basis of the presence of Cabomba carolinas is hard to understand, current and it seems future users of the lake have simple protocols to prevent the translocation of Cabomba and their vessels would be used in a wide variety of other bodies of water. SEQ Water currently has Cabomba in three other impoundments two of which are established well utilised fisheries one a SIPS impoundment the other currently applying to be included on SIPS as is Lake Kurwongbah. Will this be the future of those impoundments as they come up for review ? Lake Kurwongbah once a Tilapia infested Lake with an exclusive use agreement for two clubs now a fantastic Bass and Saratoga lake created for public use with public funds by the community and recreational fishers still it would seem for the exclusive use of two clubs.

They have received around 450 submissions already we need to get another at least 450 from fishos and to those who think not in my backyard and fish other dams that have cabomba if they shut out Kurwongbah it creates a precedent to shut out the other waters.
All they are interested in is cutting costs and if they can shut down a couple more dams they will do it.
They are only interested in their own bottom line and couldnt give a hoot about the benefits and income that is generated to the local community.
Cheers

From the latest email
Lakes Samsonvale and Kurwongbah - in full swing
"Our first workshop for Lakes Samsonvale and Kurwongbah last weekend attracted nearly 150 community members.
We have already received over 600 surveys in response to the release of these discussion papers with ideas for new trails for horses, mountain bikes and walking, as well as paddle craft and skiing.
If you are interested in these lakes and haven't had a chance to look at the discussion papers or complete the survey you still have until 11 September to do so."

Note no mention of fishing.

The problem for m was the 3 days notice that it was going to be happening. No way I could get organised in that time frame. Had other commitments I couldn't get out of.

I doubt it will do anymore than allow them to tick the "public consultation" box.
