New to Sweetwater Barra
« on: October 28, 2010, 08:42:05 PM »
A regular client of mine Shunji loves catching Long Tail Tuna here in Hervey Bay band on this trip they had some amazing sight casting to them in about 4 ft of water on the flats and this time he returned with his friend Mako and he was also keen to catch his first Barra so after the Longy,Golden Trevally and other species action I took them out to Catch a Sweetwater Barra.

They only landed 2 from 7 but enjoyed every minute of it with a couple of quick wipeouts close to structure and the rest jumping off or hooks falling out.

This was fish Mako's 3rd hookup and it wrapped him in the timber and was swimming around about a metre under the snag in full view and the dissapointed look on his face was too much so I slid over the side and unwrapped it[I wont do this again it was pretty scary when it came free and started to swim towards me with a lure hanging out of it's mouth] but  his first Barra was landed and he was a very happy man.

Shunji had caught salties before but not Sweetwater Barra so he was also happy.

Saltwater pics on my site for those interested.

Paul

Congrates to Shunji on his first Sweetwater Barra.

Thanks for the comments guys,I always go the extra yards to make sure clients get fish but I doubt I'll ever get into the water like that again,no fish is worth injury to me or anyone else.

Good onya Paul ...... but crazy!   -  i'm sure your client appreciated it!
I did the same thing last year on a big fish during the ABT tour at Faust  ...... I was crapping myself!    -   but at least I knew the fish was hooked deep down and had no loose trebles  :)

Hey slates hope ya keepin well mate, and yeh it allways sits on the deck under the sounder,I never carry it in my pocket on the boat.

Had another client out recently fishing fly and he landed 4 from 8.

That inspired me to go out for a fish the next day and I had some fun with them  on fly as well.
Had a bit of a play with the Z man swimmerz but it was fly they wanted and I wasn't going to argue with that,I just love catching these fish on fly even if they are small.

Top effort. BK might call you, if you know who I mean. They are possibly keen on a charter trip with you soon.
Fly- fish sizes- the size fades into oblivion when the challenge details are laid out in front. Each capture is merit on its own.
Cheers
Johnny
