Mate Glen and I decided to have our first look at EMD yesterday. Arrived to find a very fishy looking dam and hardly any breeze. We headed off around the edges and zig zagged all over the dam trying to get a feel for the place. In amongst all this we were attacked by over 50 bass and 50 spangles and strangely there was still a lot of empty water on the sounder.
We found a few fish worthy of a pic but there was a lot of smaller fish. Glen had a nice bass and a yella worthy of a pic but lost them while dehooking.
Got caught at the wrong end of the dam when the wind came up and it was a long paddle home, might have to get a hobie. ;D If you look close you may see the loch maddock monster in the backround of the first pic.

The old girl is sure firing at the moment.
Boys in the stocking group telling me the other day when we put the fingerlings in that the yellas are going off big time and hitting hard! Apparently the yellas are in the 40's after only 2 years, really good grow out rates.
Dam might be going to get another injection of yella's next year.

Back on sunday to finish our look at the dam and cover the spots we missed. It seemed funny they had all these back bays fenced off with floats , I dont know if they are there to keep the yakkers in or out as nobody was taking any notice of them.
Not as good a day as last thursday we only managed half a dozen rats and a heap of spanglies each. Seen a 50cm bass floater looked like it had only been dead for a day or so.

Hi Dino,
The roped off areas are exclusion zones to try and stop the spread of the noxious Cabomba Weed. This is why there is no propelled vessels allowed on the water. Its dissapointing that there are still people inside the roped off areas, especially since we have been getting solid bass quite close to the launch area.
A few guys have noticed that extra care needs to be taken when landing fish in the warmer water. We have started to pass the word around that if you are wanting to get pics of those EMD trophy fish then try and get them back into the water in a timely manner.

The beauty went 53cm to the fork. Perfect way to christen the new bass combo!

You been fishing for bream to long, so about 55cm real length then, pretty impressive !

Never really heard of fork length measurement until I joined the kayak forums. Don't really follow bream fishing, so I just thought it was a bass fishing thing. :o

Not sure why some Queensland bass fishermen don't like measuring the whole fish. ABT rules used a "fork" length because they were concerned about an Inspector finding an angler with an undersize fish during a tournament.
That's a helluva nice fish whichever way you measure it.
