how far north do u hav to travel to gt barramundi? My friend siad you can get them just around Bundarberg near Gin Gin, i think he said.

People have been catching the odd one in the Nerang River estuary on the Gold Coast this year - and some mega ones (>1m) have been landed in the Maroochy estuary too!

Even Sunny coast. We get them at hervey bay....

thanks for the reply ,will have to get the permit and try wivenhoe dam, and lots of other places , makay or cairns

I went to a seminar put on by Jones Tackle at Chermside and the Guest Speaker was saying that the dams like Awoonga and Monduran that have lost a bunch of fish over the wall(floods) will come back in the coming years due to the efforts that the good blokes in the stocking groups. The process will come full circle again and we will start to see Barra come on the radar as the uneducated fish start to get big and readily take lures again.
Looking forward to that I must say even if it is more measured than the first time.
Didn't think Barra was on the list of fish stocked in Wivenhoe :P

I'm told one group at Awoonga last week caught a lot of fish in one session. Wivenhoe, Monduran and Awoonga all seem to be coming back after the massive upheavals of early 2011. Huge biomasses of food have not made the angling easy. A 40cm Barra weighing in excess of 2kg as captured at Awoonga recently is testament to the food available. The Wivenhoe fish, and now we've seen thanks to dino, some of the North Pine fish are in amazing condition. 2013 could well be the year of the impoundment return. Oh yeah, 20,000 barramundi can't just disappear either.

Plenty coming out of Monduran further up the dam. 20 in a session at times up to 70cm

Correct if I'm wrong but what your saying is that Wivenhoe dam has been stocked with 20,000 fingerlings????

Rumor has it the MSG poured them into Wivy sometime in the 90's. Whether they survived the cold winters when the lake was low, who knows.

Yeah, it's only a rumour. There was a bloke who slapped a 76cm Barra on the bar at Coominya and asked if it was a Tilapia, but it's only a rumour.
