First of the season
« on: September 01, 2012, 04:04:49 PM »
Headed out at gentleman's hours this morning (9 am) not expecting much but more to scope a new spot I didn't get to last season because of the rain. I landed this nice fish from a typical laydown-are they are surety or what ? It was great to feel that anticipation of the lure passing over the top ready for the strike but always blown away how they still "take you by surprise" and the ferocity of the strike. I could have paddled home there and then quite satisfied but took the time to search the options for the future taking some pics of other laydowns and their orientation as the tide dropped. Only bummer ('scuse the pun) was seeing cows crapping in the water no fences in sight. I even had to paddle backwards as one gave me a minor charge. Cheers Pat.

Nice work Pat

I am interested to here about what type of lure retriver you have there?

How did the spinnerbaits go for you?

Sorry Milo it took so long to reply I haven't visited the site for a while as was off line for a few weeks. The lure retriever is homemade out of f/glass tent poles epoxied together with a stainless steel wire the full length of the top section (approx 570 mm long). I just twisted the top coil around a broom handle fed it through the hollow pole then bent over the end jamming the doubled wire back into the hole. Both ends were epoxied. The whole thing is made out of two different diameter poles that just happen to fit snugly. They all had female ferrules (not the hairy armpit dreadlocked type) so I mixed and matched so I ended with a pole about 8 1/2 ft long. It only cost me about ten bucks as I had the wire and the poles came from the dump resale shop at Noosa tip. I did post a thread up here when I made it but can't seem to find it by searching. As regards spinnerbaits they're a fall back lure for me when other lures don't seem to be working but also very good for chucking through branches and amongst twiggy stuff that most other lures get caught up in - my go to "I'm feeling dejected nothing's working I'm getting lazy lure i guess"  ::) Cheers Pat.
