On my recent forays over the mountain visiting Fernvale, I noticed the little parking lot and access to Wivanhoe just north of Kipper Creek road. Have to slide the yak under the barbed wire, (got one of those double back entries to discourage animals and bikes) but otherwise looks a nice easy access point to the dam.
Whats the fishing like that side of the dam? Anything to throw lures at?
Of course the big question is if I park my car and trailer there, is it likely to still be there when I return? With the wheels still on it!
Would I be better off slinging the sailing club the $50 for Billies bay access, I've heard its not far from this spot anyway.

Have released alot of fish up that creek over the years.
I've launched there lots of times and haven't had any issues. That little carpark gets locked after dark so be sure to be out at sundown or be prepared to stay the night.
Haven't caught anything on that side of the bridge, but haven't fished that side much. Caught some good bass along the steep bank on the lake side of the bridge and further up into Billies Bay.

You'll catch Bass, Yellas, and Forkies up there. It gives you access to some pretty good water.

Dumbest rule ever. Supposedly is true. Also heard that if you cart it upside down on a trailer it's not considered a boat but if you transport it the right way up then it is. I had my hobie on a modified jet ski trailer for the two years I was a member of the sailing club and no one said anything to me. For me if you don't launch at a boat ramp it shouldn't matter anyway but you just never know.

Sailing club will be issuing new keys on the 11th and 18th of this mont. that's the next two Saturdays. Yes, the ule is if you use a trailer you need a permit. There is also av rule in all of Queensland that if you use a public boat ramp, the vessel must be registered.

Correct, and at the other end of the scale, if you can put your 5m tinnie on your roof racks you don't need a boating permit, go figure.

Lucky that the ramps at Billies Bay & Hayes Landing aren't public ramps any more....

My little punt with electric isn't legally required to be registered in Qld. Does that mean I can't use public ramps?

Dino, I can always chuck the smaller yak up on the roof!
Out on the water they wouldn't know what transport you used, you would have to be spotted actually loading or unloading a yak for them to know you used a trailer.
When I was in the kilcoy club launching in Somerset I asked the shiela who issues the permits if I needed one for my car trailer and yak, she said dont worry about it, but that was probably just her being nice after I had just shelled out for the permit for my boat..

As I said, "all of Queensland" which is both fresh and salt. I've never seen it enforced. The reason is that public ramps are partly funded by boat registration fees.

They also have a 4.5tonne limit for tow vehicle trailer and boat in a lot of Council areas as well. Never seen that enforced either.
