I was wondering what is some other approaches to fishing the Lockyer Creek mostly from Gatton down towards Fernvale. I have done reasonably well just on live worm but my mate just has no luck and was chasing some info on so lures and techniques that would best suit a amateur looking at hooking a couple of decent sized fish. Also I would like to see some pictures of fish caught with names to help me identify some of the fish I have caught and have thus far not been able to I.d thanks.

You can walk a bit downstream from the weir and you will find Bass. We've paddled up from the Brisbane River and caught Bass all along that stretch. There are plenty of Forkies in there as well. If you catch any Lungfish release them immediately.
SWFSA stocked some Bass into the Lockyer just before the last flood. We're hoping that some stuck around and will be there in a year or so when they're big enough to catch.
You could travel another couple of hundred metres and try the Lowood Bends, there are plenty of big bass taken there.

With all the overflows you stand a fair chance of coming across a yella or two as well, as well as the old eel tail catfish. try putting a shrimp pot in, you stand a much better chance of catching bass on live shrimp..

Thanks a lot guys I'm coming up home again in the next week and will organize a fishing trip with a few mates. Will be putting a pot in and going for a walk downstream cheers again. Also my mate who first took me to the weir stressed to me about catch and release of any lungfish and I have released all of the ones of caught after a quick happy snap. :)

Couple of pics from wed, the bloke in the backround of pic 2 was catching a bit of everything and all going in the bucket, tandans, forkies and bass. He looked like a farmer, probably trying to get enough to turn into fertilizer.
