Butterworth rod
« on: July 17, 2011, 06:39:20 PM »
I have a Butterworth Baitcaster rod labelled "Zenith". It's rated at 2-5kg and is maroon colour (came from Qld) and is 1.7m in length. It's a graphite composite construction. I bought it some years back and put it away for future use. It's a fairly light action and looks to be a medium taper. Anyone ever heard of these? I know Len Butterworth was into building mostly beach rods so this si a bit of a mystery to me. I'd like to hear any clues.
Cheers,
John

Have heard the butterworth name a fair bit, My great uncle Kieth arthy had dealings with Butterworth when he had Arthy's toys and gifts in Beaudese

If you like i can go quizz him about the rod if you wish he is pretty knowlageable in butterworth, kilwell and snyderglas aswell as others, He was a rod builder and pretty well reputed around these parts.

Thanks Steve I'd like to know a bit more about it. I'll give you the blank number, it's BWZ-5001TGL. Not too sure about the 500 figure because it's fairly indistinct.
Cheers mate,

Sounds like a bit of a gem because its a bit out of the way from the usual butterworth rods.

Those old composite light baitcasters are great rods, cast a small lure a mile.

Yeh it's pretty good actually, I just had it in a corner for a long time but got a Banax Sedna reel a while back and thought I'd give it a run. Be a helluva rod for throwing spinnerbaits.
