Working bees have been transforming the Lake Skinner track

The Parks and Wildlife Service have recently undertaken a number of working bees on the trail to Lake Skinner.  As well as undertaking the usual grunt work involved in upgrading tracks they have also used this time as an opportunity to provide some masterclasses on bush carpentry.

A group of volunteers were tutored in the laying of single planking, running through the entire process from ripping the logs, cutting and laying footings and cutting pegs.  The bush carpentry involved anchoring the pegs to the single plank right through to laying the chicken wire that keeps everything non slip over winter

Lake Skinner is a glacial lake in the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area close to Huonville. It is a three and a half hour walk to the lake but well worth it for anglers as IFS stock this lake as one of our rainbow waters.

A Wildcare group for the Snowy Range area is being set up to continue to improve the track.
