Title: New Boat Choice help?
Post by: donut.dog on January 18, 2015, 07:29:56 AM
Hello All, In the market for a new boat for the family. Looking at the Blue Fin 455 Wildcat Pro with 75hp, Stacer Outlaw 469 with 75hpor the Clitrex Renegade 460 with 70hp. Will be doing mostly fishing out of it. Flicking lures. Also towing the kids on the tubes. Does anyone have any of these boats and give me an insight into how they go. Ride handle etc.  :thanks. Any info good and bad would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Cant comment on the ride of each of these. The general feedback I hear is that the Blufin appear to be a better build that the telwater made tinnies (Stacer and Clitrex)

I have a 4.5m Bluefin Barracuda with a 60hp Yamaha 4 stroke. I know it isn't what you are looking at but I can tell you my boat has lived up to my expectations big time. I have been able to do everything I have wanted and more.
I have found the finish of the boat to be excellent and probably the only fault I could mention would be the floor has buckled in places but was easily fixed by putting in extra screws.
A mate of mine has a 4.55m Clitrex Territory and he sings its praises as well.
I guess it all comes down to personal preferences. The only thing I would look at with the Bluefin Wildcat is the fact it has a shallower vee in the hull and if you intend to hit the bay too often it may get a bit thumpy in the chop.
A test drive should sort this issue out for you.

Softness of ride would go Clitrex then Stacer then Bluefin.  Stability at rest would probably go the opposite way.

Have been in all of them
Clitrex is best all round hull for soft ride, stability, and fittout
Bluefin and stacer would be a touch quicker, if each had the same motor,
Bluefin is the wettest with spray over the side
Make sure you measure each one, as the model designation is not the true size, Clitrex measures the largest

Thanks PMC, I''ve heard that the Bluefins are a bit wetter than the other two. Hoping to get a test run in them to see before I decide.

I have the Stacer 449 Bay Master with all the bells and whistles and yet I spend most of my time on fresh water lakes, it only has a 40 hp yammy 2 stroke but with the rear seat removed I have an excellent fishing platform with a stern mounted water snake attached to where the ladder was and sit in the shade for a comfortable days fishing and the 40 can keep up with all the rev heads if I want it to, but who wants to (let them show you where the floating crocks are) with a rear mounted water snake at a Quarter the price you can sneak up just as well as the $1,000 plus models can and you won't come home with a head looking like a cooked lobster either, It has a shallow draft and I s#it you not they go like the clappers, I looked at all options and because I bay Rust water fish as well it was the best option, regards Bluey55

Thanks for all the advice and comments. Settled on a Clitrex renegade 460 with a 75 etec. Seemed the best fit for my family. Now just looking at electric motors for it. Minn kota or Motorguide.

I've always preferred the Minn Kota.
