Brisbane River Savages Crossing to Burtons Bridge
« on: April 10, 2011, 09:15:06 PM »
Fitz and I went for a quick paddle yesterday.  No fishing, just a look at the river.  Many changes since the floods.  It's back to almost normal flow now.  I have no idea how a three tonne truck ended up stuck in the trees near the gorge, it must have floated down from somewhere though.  Shows the power of water.

Dale

I fish because the little voices in my head tell me to.

Did that red kayak beat your's Dale?

So is it clear enough to fish yet?

About how long did the journey take?

Cheers

We did the section in about 2.5 hours. Normally to get some fishing in,  I allow 5 - 6 hours for that section & that's pushing past alot of water & only hitting the good looking water.  I read somewhere (canoeing qld maybe) that section is 18km, tho I don't think its that long.

It's clean enough to fish it, tho we didn't take a rod, just checkin out the changes post flood.

I'll post more pics & video tomorrow night maybe.. (got a million things to get done)

fitz..

Launched at Burtons Bridge yesterday and paddled upstream . A log jam in the gorge section ( located below Mockers road ) is where we turned around , also the storms that were brewing didn't help either.

The map above , just zoom out a little bit to get a better view .
There is plenty of structure to keep you entertained.

Cheers,
Dave.

How does this spot compare in popularity to Twinnes and Savages for public use(said Nicely)??

Is that launch spot upstream or downstream of the bridge Dave?

Cheers

Not as many people go to Burton's Bridge compared to Twin Bridges or Savages Crossing. You can launch on the downstream side of the bridge; either side of the river you can drive virtually right to the water.

Easy launch Sel. Only a small incline down to a nice shallow area . You'd need a 4WD if you wanted to park right next to the water though.

Cheers,
Dave.

Fitzy,

Yesterday we launched around midday and got fried in the hot sun and then had to call an early day as the sky looked a bit threatening. But we did catch a few , no great sizes though and all Bass .

This afternoon though was a different story !! We launched around 3pm and went downstream.

http://maps.google.com.au/?ll=-27.498146,152.696593&spn=0.013209,0.019205&t=h&z=16&vpsrc=6

I was still keen on persisting with the spinnerbaits and got rewarded with regular catches of Bass along the edges amongst the shade or snags.

At the end of this reach , there are some rapids of the kind that should be walked through due to the current running into an enormous fallen tree.

But beyond them is some very fishy looking water.

We turned around in this reach and made our way back. At this set of rapids I decided to flick a spinnerbait in the eddy on the opposite bank.

On my second cast this jumped on the hooks.

It was a great afternoon's fun , and it was even better to finally nail a lot more fish than the wife for once  ;D

Cheers,
Dave.
