Title: Vic- Camperdown Lakes report
Post by: Slates on August 08, 2011, 09:43:13 AM
G'day guys.

Speaking to a mate in Colac last night. He reports that the local baitfish, bullhead gudgeon have moved into the shallows of Lake Bullen Merri. When this happens, the large brown trout move in with them. Fishos have landed big browns after dark using the bullheads as bait. The biggest so far has been 5.4kg (!) and they have regularly been caught from 3 to 4kg.
Rainbows have also been caught but a fair bit smaller down to 1.6kg.

You need to be prepared to fish well into the night. Hook the baitfish through the top lip and suspend him about 30cm under a small float. The bullheads can be caught using a collapsable bait trap or haul net after dark. Please check out the regulations for these on the DPI website here: http://new.dpi.vic.gov.au/fisheries/recreational-fishing/recreational-fishing-guide/using-equipment-in-inland-waters (http://new.dpi.vic.gov.au/fisheries/recreational-fishing/recreational-fishing-guide/using-equipment-in-inland-waters)

Over at Purrumbete, anglers are also enjoying top class fishing. One angler caught a 4.4kg brown casting a silver wonder wobbler from the boat ramp jetty!

Trolling at both lakes is also producing fish. Doug notes that Lofty's in number 49 (fluoro green body/ fluoro red head) has been doing well.

Lake Toolirook (aka: Ettrick) near Lismore has also been fishing well for brown and rainbow trout either side of 1kg.

West Barwon Dam near Forest has been fishing ok for smaller fish on soft plastics.

cheers, NS
