Lake King William open for fishing all year round
Info & image: Tasmania Inland Fisheries Service

The upper River Derwent that feeds Lake King William, providing plenty of spawning opportunities giving the lake a very large population of trout.

Whilst previously open to all year round fishing until 2006, Lake King William has only been open during the brown trout season for the past six years. At the request of angling groups the lake is again open to all year round fishing. The regulation changes in order for this to occur have been passed and the lake is now open to fishing during this winter. This gives anglers an opportunity to fish the highlands during the winter period.

Lake King William offers good fishing for all methods and has a very large population of brown trout and a smaller population of rainbow trout. The bag limit at Lake King William is 20 per day and the minimum size is 220 mm.

The highlands can be very cold this time of year, anglers need to be prepared for this and take care boating. Lake levels at Lake King William fluctuate greatly, so check before venturing there about access to boat ramps. An Angler Access brochure is available on this site that includes Lake King William and Lake St Clair.
