Canoeing for Cod
« on: April 16, 2015, 12:33:36 PM »
I get out west once or twice a year, and keep trying new tactics/locations each time for mixed success.
Went with a mate from uni, and he C&R two cod and a yellowbelly over the 2.5 days fishing out of the canoe, and I scored myself a big donut.
The only fish I locked up on bricked me before I could do anything about it; but that's fishing!

The air is cooling down out there, and the fish we pulled out weren't full of energy and not particularly huge. Still a good couple of days away though.  :youbeauty The spinnerbaits were a winner as always, but I really flogged the surface lures hard early/late in the day and evening for no enquiries. I'm yet to pull one off the surface?! Slow rolls, fast retrieves, pauses, the works; just can't buy a hit on them.
If you're ever up for a session out the New England or Border Rivers way, gimme a buzz!

Martain.

Bloody hell is there an easy way to add images?
I see blokes can insert their photos straight into the text here without it being just an additional attachment; how is that done?
I can't even upload any photos because I keep getting:

20150408_062617.jpg.
You cannot upload that type of file. The only allowed extensions are bmp, mp4, wav, doc, gif, tif, jpg, mpg, pdf, png, txt, zip, bmp, tif, pdf, swf, mp3, wma, docx, kml, kmz, xls, jpeg, avi, wmv,,.

!?!?!! The images are in jpeg format....

Try resizing the images to 640 pixels wide, or you can host the images at a place like photobucket and link to them.

I've compressed everything and it's still giving me the same spiel.
Might have to go via photobucket or play around until something clicks!

Try losing the underscore in the file name.

Martain,

As aussiebasser said, you can use Photobucket or similar to host your pictures. Benefits of a photobucket type of hosting is that you can use their links for any forum, stalbook ,chatroom or even sms on your phone. Each photo has 4 options for which code best suits which platform you are using (if that makes sense).

Uploading to the gallery on sweetwater I found confusing at first too. The sweetwater [img] codes will also work when posting on other forums.

Here's how I do it, assuming your picture is less than 300kb and you are using a laptop/desk top computer.
Click on the gallery tab at the top right of screen (its the tab between "store" and "classifieds")
Then click on the "My Gallery" tab, its below the Gallery title in the centre of the screen.
Now, if its your first time uploading, you'll have to create a gallery and name it. Go to gallery admin panel and click on add category.
Once that's done, click on the gallery name you have just created to open that gallery.
Down the bottom of the screen, I choose the "Bulk add pictures" option.
In the centre of your screen it'll have a "File Upload" title and under that will be a line saying the "multiload failed to load. An issue occured...
But, right below that is a browse tab. Click on that and choose the picture you want uploaded.
And away you go.

All my ramblings above sound like gobbledegook but it will make sense and is fairly quick once you have in sorted in your head :) goodluck.

Keen to see your pics of your cod trip.

Cheers,
Dave.

Thanks for the photo upload tips. I will have to try it sometime. I couldn't get the pics to load after the wife and I had successful barra trip last Oct. Gave up and delete everything. If I post now, it will be out of date, but better late than never.
Cheers

You're a weapon Dave, cheers mate!
Everything was easy to follow and spelt out to the letter, but at the point I go to click on the Browse tab the page never changes and no option comes up for me to add images. I can't even upload a single image by hitting Upload because it is stuck on the same feedback loop.
I'll work something out when I get the patience to attempt it again haha!

It's a relief to see I'm not the only one struggling here Doubletrouble! Going to throw it out there and say that the Sweetwater Fishing forums could do with an upgrade to simplify everything. It's a shame to think people would lose interest and we all see less photos/reports because it's too frustrating to navigate and troubleshoot.

I'll get there!  :youbeauty

I think I've worked out how to get Photobucket to host it haha!

Arrived in the afternoon, setup and had an evening flick.

Sunrise was a pearler the next morning. We fished some really good water with a heap of structure for zero hits until my mate caught his second ever cod. Spotted a hefty redbelly on the way too.

Had another fish that evening for very little, but we did hear a boof or two.
The following day produced a few more fish and rounded out a good little trip :)

Looks like you are as handy with the camera as you are with the rod.
Great pics. Good to see you figured it out.
Short of time just now, but my time will come. (^_^)
Thanks for sharing
Cheers

There's something very special about being on the water at first light out west, that morning mist and the clarity of the lighting, awesome places to be, fish are a bonus.
Re the surface, what are you throwing?
I'm no expert, but love my surface fishing, slow rolled Kingfisher Mantis go OK for me, paused here and there, especially on splash down next to structure. keep rolling all the way back, they'll hit you right at splash down or right at yak side, awesome stuff.

Cheers guys.
I have a couple of the Mantis lures in varying profiles BR65, amongst a range of other walkers and poppers. The jointed jitterbug is probably my staple bass-lolly if I'm fishing late, and the feel is pretty much identical. Just haven't had the privilege of locking up to a cod yet!

I'll just keep it tight to structure like you say and eventually I'll come good  :youbeauty
